What happened
At unBoxed in San Francisco on 30 September, Amazon Ads announced Amazon Ads Agent: a single buying experience that, in Amazon’s own words, brings together what was formerly the DSP and the Ads Console, so advertisers can work to full-funnel objectives in one place. Sponsored ads, a new campaign type called Full-Funnel Campaigns, and a combined display, video and audio product called DVA+ all sit inside it. Its conversational interface is in expanded closed beta.
Around it: Full-Funnel Campaigns, where you set a goal and Amazon’s models choose the channel mix, creative, audiences and optimisation. Branded Conversations, which puts brand-supplied product guidance into Alexa for Shopping. Sponsored Services, which connects shoppers to local service providers with Yelp as the anchor partner. Generative creative tools inside the conversational interface. Natural-language access to what Amazon describes as nearly 1,000 metrics. And two things aimed at other software rather than at people: an Amazon Ads MCP Server (Lite) with three core tools, and an AMC Expert Tool that writes Amazon Marketing Cloud queries from a plain request.
Why it concerns you
The console an operator works in every day is being replaced. That is the story, and the rest is detail.
Two things are missing from the announcement, and they are the two that would let anyone plan. There are no rollout dates beyond “expanded closed beta”, and there is no list of which stores get it when. A European brand reading this has no date to put in a calendar.
The performance figures published are Amazon’s own, from Amazon’s own beta: 67 per cent higher long-term return on ad spend and 29 per cent lower cost to acquire new-to-brand customers for Full-Funnel Campaigns, and up to 71 per cent more product coverage for the creative tools. They are real measurements of something. They are not a measurement of your account, and they carry no disclosure of what the comparison was against. Treat them as a reason to test, never as a reason to move budget.
The part worth thinking about now is control. Full-Funnel Campaigns and DVA+ both move the decision about where money goes from the operator to the campaign type. That is fine when it works and expensive when it does not, and the thing that tells you which is happening is whether the reporting still separates the channels well enough to see it. Amazon says advanced settings keep every programmatic lever available in DVA+. Whether the measurement stays as granular is the question to ask when the invitation arrives.
What we would do
There is nothing to switch on yet, so the work is to make the account measurable before it changes. We would write down what each channel costs and returns, per marketplace, while the console those numbers came from still reports them. When the invitation comes we would test one campaign, not the account. If you run your own account: record that baseline now, while the old console is still there.
